Alda Louise Sellers

Alda Louise Hartford Sellers 93, of Dixon, KY passed away at home on April 15th, 2024. She was a member of the Providence United Methodist Church in Providence, KY. She was a retired school teacher, having taught for 75 years. Alda started teaching at Onton in 1949-1950, then taught at Weaverton, Sebree and Dixon. She graduated with a teaching degree from Lindsey Wilson College, then received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from UK. After retirement in 1991 from teaching, Alda continued with private tutoring and also she was a private sitter with the elderly. She was very active in the Teachers Retirement Association. Her and her husband Hugh were instrumental in helping get St. Anthony’s Hospice and Alcoholic Anonymous started in Webster County. She was the former owner of the Sebree Dairy Bar, she had a love for her pets and chocolate. She touched many lives throughout her teaching and tutoring career. She was the daughter of the late Melvin L. and Orpah Hobgood Hartford. She was preceded in death by her husband Hugh Sellers, a daughter Shannon Green, 3 sisters Frances Shively, Lois Christman and Christine Holder, and 1 brother Marlin Hartford. Survivors include her daughter Lisa Watson of Clay, KY; 2 grandchildren Nicole Watson and Kyle(Sarah) Green both of Dixon, KY; 5 great-grandchildren Duston Watson, Krisalyn Green, Caleb Green, Micah Green and Wrenly Green and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Thursday April 18th, 2024 at 1pm at Townsend Funeral Home in Dixon, KY. Rev. Jeff Graham will officiate. Burial will be in Onton Cemetery in Onton, KY. Visitation will be from 4pm-8pm on Wednesday and from 8am until service time on Thursday at the funeral home. Online condolences can be made at www.townsendfuneralhomeinc.com
