Glenda Jane “Memmie” Townsend, 70, passed away at St. Anthony’s Hospice Lucy Smith King Care Center in Henderson, KY on Monday August 15, 2022 surrounded by her family.
Glenda was born November 27, 1951 to her mother Wesley Owen Blue Coomes and father Walter Thomas Coomes. Glenda grew up the youngest of 6 siblings on a beautiful farm in Slaughters, KY.
Glenda loved her husband of 37 years, Mike, more than anything. She cherished time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grand child. She loved gardening, canning fresh vegetables, and her flower garden. Glenda and Mike enjoyed traveling the country on their trike motorcycle and in their camper with their dog Lucy. Glenda loved to cook and share recipes with her grandchildren, daughters and daughter-in-laws. She also loved to cook for her family, and anyone who was in need. She ran “A Taste of Heaven” at her local church, and fed many local families. Glenda was an active member of Slaughters First United Methodist Church in Slaughter, KY; serving her church, her church family, and the Lord with wisdom and kindness. She would tell the word of God to anyone that would listen, and constantly remind her loved ones of his word and promises in their time of need.
She is preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers Wilbur and Jimmie Coomes, 1 sister Kae Coomes Fuqua.
Survived by her husband Michael Wayne Townsend of Slaughters, KY; 1 daughter Kendra (Brice) Marsh of Sebree, KY; 2 sons Justin (Jamie) Jones and Cody (Jade) Townsend both of Slaughters, KY; Grandchildren Jerrica (Cody) Robinson, Jace Jones, Skylar Marsh, Cooper, Collin and Cole Townsend. Great grandchild Deacon Robinson; 1 brother Tommy (Lois) Coomes; 1 sister Reva Coomes Holloman and 2 sister-in-laws Peggy and Wilma Coomes and a brother-in-law Buddy Fuqua; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins.
Funeral service will be 12pm Friday August 19, 2022 at Townsend Funeral Home in Dixon, KY. Pastor Cameron Edwards will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-8pm and Friday 8am till service time at the funeral home.
