James Townsend

James R. “Jim” Townsend 76, lifelong resident of Dixon, KY passed away at Gulfside Hospice in Zephyrhills, FL on Friday September 23, 2022. Jim was a member of the Dixon General Baptist Church in Dixon, KY. He was a graduate of the first graduating class at WCHS in 1964 and then graduated from Murray State University, then he returned to teach at WCHS.  Jim was a member of the Dixon Masonic Lodge #911 and a 32nd degree mason. Jim served in County Government for over 32 years having served as County Judge-Executive from 1992-2016. He also served on many boards throughout his political career including  GRADD Chairman, KACO past president, NARC past president, chairman of the KY Coal County Coalition, chairman of the West KY Economic Development Corp. and past president of KCJEA. Jim had a love for Webster County and the citizens and loved promoting Webster County throughout the state. Survivors include his wife of 54 years Carolyn Townsend of Dixon, KY; 1 daughter Stephanie(Rick) Kupper of Paducah, KY; 1 son Chris Townsend(fiance Sara Bohnert) of Evansville, IN; 1 brother Tommy(Brenda) Townsend of Dixon, KY and their daughter Farrah Powell of Dixon, KY; 5 grandchildren James Logan, Riley and Adyson Townsend, Catherine and Reese Kupper; several cousins. Celebration of Life will be held at 1pm on Friday September 30, 2022 at Townsend Funeral Home in Dixon, KY. Rev. John Brumfiel, Jiten Shah and the Honorable Judge Rene’ Williams will officiate. Burial in Oak Grove Cemetery in Dixon, KY. Visitation will be from 4pm-8pm on Thursday and from 8am until service time on Friday.
