Mary Hall

August 4, 1926 — August 24, 2017

Mary Katherine (Cates) Hall, 91, of Providence, KY,  passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at her home. She was born August 4, 1926 in Slaughters, KY  to Watt and Sammie (Pritchett) Cates. She graduated from Slaughters High School and Henderson Beauty School. She spent much of her youth with family in the Howell area on the westside of Evansville. During that time, she worked at Swift Packing Co. and Briggs during WWII. At Briggs, she was a “Rosie the Riveter”, riveting and welding on the wingtips of the P47 Thunderbolt aircraft. She settled in Dixon with her husband, J.R., working as a beautician in Dixon and Slaughters. She attended Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church in Slaughters and was active in the Mt. Pleasant Homemakers Club. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting, was an excellent cook, an immaculate housekeeper and logged many hours on her Snapper tending to her large yard. She and J.R. enjoyed retirement in Henderson. She returned to Webster County in 2005, enjoying visits with her grandchildren and sitting on her porch watching the hummingbirds.

Katherine is survived by her daughters, Karen Winstead (Jerry) of Dixon and Debbie Rogers (Ray) of Madisonville; granddaughters, Michele Person (Kevin) of Mount Washington, KY and Dawn Martin (Eric) of Princeton, IN; great-grandchildren, Dillon Martin of Indianapolis, IN and Beth and Kara Martin of Princeton, IN; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gale Hall, Jr. in 1997; three brothers, Averitt, Coleman and Morton; and two sisters, Jettie and Goldie.

The family will have a private graveside service at Slaughters Cemetery officiated by Billy Parrish with burial following. Townsend Funeral Home in Dixon is handling the arrangements.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Jennifer, Diane and Thomas with St. Anthony’s Hospice as well as caregivers, Jinna, Michelle, Kellen, Hailey and Tammie for their devotion to her care.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Anthony’s Hospice, 2410 S. Green St., Henderson, KY 42420, www.stanthonyshospice.org.. You may leave a message of sympathy or light a memorial candle at
