Rama Austin

Rama Chandler Austin 67, of Slaughters, KY passed away on Tuesday January 11, 2022 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN. She taught in the Webster County School System for 32 years. She was a Faithful Christian, Devoted Spouse and a Loving Mother. She graduated from Kentucky Wesleyan University with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance and Education and a Master’s degree and Rank 1 in Elementary Education from Murray State University. She was a member of the Mt. Gilead General Baptist Church in Slaughters where she had served in many roles over the years, but her true love was her ministry of music. Rama enjoyed spending time with friends and family, especially vacationing with her grandchildren. She was the daughter of the late Raymon and Marietta Chandler. Survivors include her husband of 48 years Paul Austin of Slaughters, KY; 1 daughter Andrea Hancock(Chad) of Greer, South Carolina; 1 son Ryan Austin(Heather) of Dixon, KY; 1 sister Theda Tapp(Tommy) of Henderson, KY; 1 brother P E Chandler(Cathy) of Dixon, KY; 5 grandchildren Natalie, Malorie and Cooper Austin and Hadley and Hunter Hancock; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Saturday January 15, 2022 at Mt. Gilead General Baptist Church 2777 Mt. Gilead-Mt. Pleasant Road Slaughters, KY. Rev. Harry Baldwin, Dr. Ray Barber and Rev. Alec Hensley will officiate. Burial will be in Slaughters Cemetery in Slaughters, KY. Visitation will be from 3-8pm on Friday at the church and from 9am until service time at the church on Saturday.
