Wilsie L. Pruitt, 79, of Poole, KY died Saturday, September 10, 2011 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville, KY. Wilsie was a devoted husband, loving father, father in law, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved his family, loved the lord, and was a beacon of light for those who were in need.
He was a lifelong member, Sunday school teacher, and deacon at Shady Grove General Baptist Church. He also served as a member and past leader of the brotherhood at Shady Grove General Baptist Church. He drove a fuel truck for 42 years for Mitchells Marathon in Sebree, KY. He was a US Army Korean War veteran and was awarded a purple heart. He was a member of the American Legion Worsham Post #40, past member of the Poole volunteer fire department, and was a Kentucky Colonel. He also loved farming.
He is the son of the late Ewing and Effie Ruth Pruitt. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucille Minor and Mary Cleo Chandler and one brother, James Robert Pruitt. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Alice Pruitt, of Poole, KY, one daughter, Karen Embry and her husband Jim of Henderson, KY, two sons, Glenn Pruitt and wife, Shirley, of Robards, KY, and Frank Pruitt and wife Diane, of Sebree, KY, one sister, Betty Winstead, of Poole, KY, five grandchildren: Nathan Pruitt and wife Tina, Ben Embry and wife Torrey, Matt Embry, Meredith Pruitt, and Alison Pruitt, three great-grandchildren, Haley, Nate, and Gracie Pruitt, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Shady Grove General Baptist Church in Poole, KY at 11 am on Wednesday, September 14, 2011. Reverend Dean Esarey will officiate. Burial will be in Shady Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 until 8 pm and on Wednesday at the church from 9-11 am prior to services. American Legion Worsham Post #40 will conduct military honors at the gravesite.
Active pallbearers will be Jimmy Newcom, Jimmy Chandler, Tom Thornsberry, Nathan Pruitt, Matt Embry, and Ben Embry. Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Wood, Oral Samples, and Maurice Forker.
